About the Speaker:

John Joseph,  M  Ed,  is  an  experienced  classroom practitioner, university educator and professional speaker with expertise in the field of contemporary learning theories and practices.  As a result of attending his talk, you will gain a deeper insight into the processes involved your child(ren)’s learning and development. He has presented keynote addresses, conferences and workshop sessions to more than 240,000 teachers and has worked with over 140,000 students, aided by computer assisted images of the brain.  John has presented keynotes and full day sessions to principals, teachers, students, parents, judges, business leaders, accountants, the medical profession, community service organizations, government departments and tertiary education staff. He has published more than 100 articles, 6 books and a number of CD Roms.

Brain Care: Focus on healthy sleep, nutrition, emotions and stress-management

Students can improve classroom performance, general health and wellbeing, and their decision-making by taking account of the relationships between brain care and how the body functions. This workshop presents impactful information designed to motivate and educate students.

Students who take this workshop can expect to:

  1. Explain 7 Brain Care Rules for improving school performance
  2. Understand how to sleep well
  3. Find out how to become a more efficient learner by managing stress
  4. Go back to their classrooms with higher levels of motivation and confidence
  5. Create a learning plan to reduce time and increase effectiveness

Learning and Career Profiling: Direct your thinking to help make life-enhancing choices.

The Learning and Career Profiling System is a planning, evaluation and reflection system for students to reach their own goals. It provides a common language for communication between students, teachers, family, career advisors and employers. It is all about planning with the future in mind!


Students who take this workshop can expect to:

1. Develop a language to describe how leaning happens

2. Identify and explain learning goals, needs and abilities

3. Build skills in choosing appropriate learning strategies

4. Connect with learning opportunities by understanding emotions

5. Build skills in reflection and evaluation to adjust approaches and plans

6. Plan pathways for individual careers

Session 3: Thursday 13 September 8:30am – 11:30am - For Parents

Living, Learning and Parenting with the Brain in Mind

Parenting is becoming more complex, more challenging and for many families, more enjoyable. We are witnessing unprecedented access to information, instant communication, and global trends. Today’s kids will need to be more emotionally smart and to think critically and creatively as both analysers and consumers. This workshop will provide an examination of how our changing views about the human brain impact schooling and parenting.


Parents who take this workshop can expect to:

  1. Explore the role of emotions in learning and relationships
  2. Find out why emotions, not the intellect make our most significant decisions
  3. Discover why children are often so tired so often and learn ways to impact their sleep patterns
  4. Teach their children how to develop thinking skills, creativity, and entrepreneurial skills
  5. Develop questioning strategies to engage their kids in conversation

Learning and Career Profiling: Supporting your child to make life-enhancing choices.

Each child’s schooling and career options are shaped by a variety of influences. Significantly, these influences include ability, motivation, confidence, strategies, strengths and career interests. The Learning and Career Profiling System supports families to shape plans in order for children to achieve success in school, further education and ultimately, employment. Learning is the cornerstone of life and career choices.


Parents who take this workshop can expect to:

  1. Understand why a child is doing well or poorly with particular subjects and/or teachers at school
  2. Understand why different family members often have different approaches for doing things, reading books and newspapers, learning how to operate a new gadget, and so on...
  3. Help a child strengthen or develop areas for personal and academic growth
  4. Suggest possible courses and careers that suit the interests of a particular family member
  5. Support a child moving from one profile to another profile in order to accomplish a career aspiration
  6. Discuss factors that contribute to university learning and employment success

Using the Four Worlds and the Information Processing Models, John takes you through 3 amazing hours of learning about how the human brain best works in classrooms. You will examine how to create the conditions that optimise students’ engagement in classroom learning. Stunning images, relevant anecdotes, discussion time and extensive notes make this workshop most memorable.
