On November 20, 2007, the Beacon School became the first educational institution in the Philippines to receive authorization by the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) in Switzerland to offer the Middle Years Program (IB-MYP, Grades 6-8).
With the recognition of its Primary Years Program (IB-PYP, PS-Grade 5) in 2005 and now its IB-MYP Program in 2007, the Beacon School has the distinction of being the first and only fully authorized educational institution in the Philippines accredited at every level of its academic programs by the IBO. The Beacon School is an IBO World School.
The Beacon School, a pioneering school in its seventh year, is an independent, non-profit, coeducational K-8 school, with the curriculum based on the International Baccalaureate (IB) framework. It is committed to providing a global education of the highest quality, rooted in an understanding of Filipino culture and traditions, to children of all nationalities. The school is dedicated to enabling students to think critically and creatively by establishing a strong foundation in academics, the humanities, spiritual education, and physical education.
The school has also built an impressive community outreach program over the last seven years, building ties with local barangay communities, a public school in Taguig, and teacher training programs in Batangas. Each year, Beacon students pool together resources to raise money to feed undernourished students, tackle issues of poverty, environmental degradation, and community development. Students as young as 6 years old are given the tools to be aware of their environment and the impact their actions make on others. These are part of the holistic approach integrated into an academically rigorous program laid out by the IBO framework.
